About the Author
Hana S. El-Gallal is a professor at Benghazi University, Libya, where she teaches International Law and where she is the head of the Cultural Committee in the Faculty of Law. She is Member of the Libyan NationalCouncil of Human Rights and the Founder and President of the Libyan Centre for Development and Human Rights (a NGO). She studied Law in Mohamed Cinq University in Morocco and Ben-ghazi University. She obtained her PhD in Law from Bern University, Switzerland.

Although this fascinating memoir is set hundreds of miles from where most Americans have ever dared to travel, Hensley brings to life this little-known part of America through myriad tales of toil, triumph and the Inupiat Ilitqusiat—the Inupiat spirit. Growing up in what he calls the twilight of the Stone Age, Hensley grew up without what many would consider basic necessities; in his homeland on the Kotzebue Sound in rural Alaska, survival was the primary concern. But even through the illness and hardships that plagued his and other families, the life lessons learned as a child stayed with him for decades. As such, despite attending high school and college in the Lower 48, he found himself always drawn back to his homeland, like a salmon heading for the waters where he was spawned. Hensley became a crusader for the Inupiat people, starting as a fresh-out-of-college activist, then his tenure as a state representative, and later his work in the corporate sector. Through his entire adult life, Hensley's mission has been simple: to ensure the Inupiat are allowed to keep their rights and their land. There are rich details of hunting adventures and typical childhood struggles, but the deep-rooted values and strength of the Inupiat people are what make this work truly sing. (Jan.)

Adult/High School—Hensley grew up in a remote Alaskan village in the early 1940s and eventually became a politician and lobbyist for Native affairs. He tells of living in a sod house with no electricity, running water, bed of his own, or medical or dental care, but of being lovingly cared for by his adoptive parents—and the whole village. His early education, conveyed through oral tradition and imbued with a deep reverence for nature, taught him the hunting and fishing skills needed for survival. In contrast, his education at the Bureau of Indian Affairs school endeavored to Americanize the students and to denigrate their heritage. Hensley later attended a Baptist boarding school in Tennessee where he was encouraged to assimilate into the Southern teen lifestyle of the time, further removing him from his beloved Inupiat heritage. With humor and pathos, the author describes his youthful experiences straddling two cultures. At George Washington University, he became interested in civil rights and advocated for Native causes. The frustrations of his people as they tried to maneuver the domestic, political, and corporate complexities of modern life in the then newly formed state are passionately revealed as Hensley details his membership in the National Congress of American Indians and the Alaskan House of Representatives. compelling, riveting window on the virtually unknown world of Alaska and its indigenous people

Willie Hensley's life story is one of extraordinary range and comprehension, both literally and figuratively.
From a childhood lived above the arctic circle, in the "twilight of the stone age" among his Inupiat extended family, through an abrupt transplantation for schooling in eastern Tennessee and then Washington DC, the
arc of his life is nearly without parallel in modern America. With powerful imagery and elegant, flowing prose, Willie conveys the essence of life as an Alaska Native in the 20th century as no one has done before. He paints vivid
pictures of the magnificent land of northwestern Alaska, the incomparable wisdom, dignity, grace and
humor of his Inupiat (Inuit) culture---and then the equally harsh challenges facing his people since Alaska
became America: forced assimilation by missionaries and teachers who were both "church and state" in one;and the challenge of sustaining life and culture in harmony with the land and sea and natural resources while also surviving in a
"modern" world driven by a cash economy. Willie's life's work -- of seeing that Alaska's Native
people retain ownership of ancestral lands while they fight to hold onto a fraying sense of cultural identity
and still prosper --is really a tale of universal human challenges. That
is what makes this such an important book, for the lessons we can all learn about adaptability and continuity

A memoir well worth reading

Hensley grew up in the wilds of Alaska in the mid twentieth century, learning the traditional ways and culture of his people. But then he was pulled from this and sent to a high school in the South. Not only did he adapt but he learned what he had to do to make the Natives' inevitable transition to "modern" living smoother and he became a guide and leader in the movement. He provides a stark look at what it took to survive and how even statehood did not begin to solve the Natives' problems.

An incredible story

Here is a really excellent book about the recent history of Alaska and unique life. Its about the right person in the right place at the right time with the right idea having the courage to take the right actions.

Willie shares personal details of a very different and impactful life from the relatively humdrum of the rest of us. On a personal level it's a very private sharing of a full and challenging life from a sod hut on the shores of the Bering Strait to the proverbial halls of power in Washington DC. On a political level it tells some of the details of how Alaska came to have a very different, respectful, and sharing relationship between native people and culture and that of the recently-arrived western civilization. On an even broader level it gives us a glimpse of the processes and realities of bringing together widely differing needs and approaches to knowing, loving, sharing, and exploiting the land.

Willies story gives non-natives and even natives, an opportunity to understand how others may look at Alaska.

Willie shares with us a deep well of personal courage, commitment to family and culture, and dedication to see things through to the end envisioned, and in the process reminds us all that if you want to get it done, you just have to go out and do it.

About the Author

Prof Dr Mario Vanhoucke is associate professor at Ghent University and Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School (Belgium). He teaches Project Management, Business Statistics and Applied Operations Research. He is program director of the Bachelors and Masters in Business Engineering and the advanced Master in Operations and Technology Management and is a partner of OR-AS. His main research interest lies in simulation and optimization models in project scheduling and scheduling in the health care sector. This November he was awarded the 2008 International Project Management Association Research Award for the research project upon which this proposed book is based -(http://www.ipma.ch/awards/resawards/Pages/winnersandhonours2008.aspx).

Great study

Vanhoucke has spent some significant time with studying the science of project tracking and applying some fairly sophisticated research methods. While this book will not be suited to a large audience, we should see some of the author's findings making their way into more sophisticated project management tools.

One example is the difference between earned-value and Lipke's "earned-schedule". Vanhoucke finds that duration estimates made using earned schedule are consistently better (and more understandable) than those made using traditional earned-value.

Other findings are much more sophisticated. The material about schedule adherence and the differences between schedules that are primarily serial vs. those that have many activities running in parallel yield some interesting and useful results. For example, the more highly parallel the project structure is the less effective critical path methods are.

The book will require significant energy to read as the the examples will require some detailed reading and analysis. Still, I don't think there is anything else like it.

Absolute Rubbish

This book is only 154 pages, which happens to be the crux of this book's suckiness. The author attempts to cover a plethora of technologies like express, mocha, MongoDb, backbone.js, Twitter bootstrap, asynchronous development, the node package manager, etc., AND he takes you through the building of a stock market program in node.js. Do you think 154 pages is enough to explain anything in detail? It's like he's been assigned the task of teaching you something, but he only has two hours to do it so he just rushes through everything. The book is basically an exercise in copying and pasting code, running it, and then patting yourself on the back because you managed to run something in node.js. Never mind the fact that what you just ran is completely incomprehensible to the person who bought the book.

I've noticed a trend in IT books recently. They try to throw as many titles as they can out there so they appear in Amazon search results, but most of the titles don't contain the same amount of content that they did in the past. So here SitePoint thought, "Hey we need a quick book on Node.js so we can tap into that market share!" Never mind the fact that the book is only 154 pages and WILL NOT make you a decent node.js programmer. They promote the book as "something you can do in a weekend" when really it's $20 for poorly written, rushed information that had money in mind and not you.

Nice quick guide to Node.js

I primarily use ASP.NET MVC and the Microsoft web stack, but wanted to try out Node to see what it has to offer. This book covers getting started with Node and then delves into creating a simple stock trading engine and corresponding web site. It covers a number of web technologies and libraries that are commonly associated with building Node applications including: Express (Node library for handling web requests), unit testing (using Mocha), Bootstrap (UI/CSS framework), MongoDb (document/object/hierarchical database), Socket.IO (always connected, socket communication), and Backbone (client side MVC/UI Javascript library). Of course you could buy a single book for each of these technologies, so each is only covered in the depth that is needed to build the sample web application. Overall the book is a nice quick guide (under 150 pages) to what's possible with Node.js, especially if you're already a seasoned web developer coming from another stack (Rails, PHP, Microsoft, etc.). It's not for beginning programmers or people who haven't done any web programming before. The book seems to favor a Linux development experience, but I followed along without a problem using Windows and Microsoft's Web Matrix IDE (which works pretty good for Node development). I didn't notice any spelling/grammar errors or code typos, which means the technical editors and authors did their job. I read the PDF version directly from Sitepoint. Sitepoint always publishes a stunning looking (full-color) eBook. Compared to the other Node books I've looked at, this is a more practical coverage of actually building a working application. Most of the other Node books take their time wading through the internals of Node. It would have been nice to see the sample application built out a little bit more (more forms, more ideas on how to structure the views, layouts, routing, etc), but this is the most complete book I've seen so far on building a web application with Node.

Try Amazon's preview first ...

From a Windows / .NET developer and a Mac user's perspective. This is not a tender-footed approach suitable for a beginner. If you already have Node.js installed or are familiar with the Mac Terminal (which I'm shaky at) then this will not walk you through the process of install and initial configuration. Don't believe me? Follow the instructions in the section of the book called "In the Beginning" ... you can preview this directly on Amazon. There is so much left unsaid that I'm having to fill in a lot of the preliminary details by guessing. Economy of words is good as long as you can express yourself adequately. But at least give me a few screen shots so I can deduce what you want me to do next. I can't recommend this book.

The Most comprehensive and detailed Sacred Anatomy book yet published

Other books with similar titles that come up when you look for subtle anatomy are good! This version of the anatomy of the Human Energy Structure is what Leonardo Da Vinci's studies of physical anatomy were to all previous publications. Simply in a category of it's own in the attention to detail and the revolutionary implications of the author's revelations.

Any serious healer should have one even if you don't use the methodical, systematic approach of healing that Desda uses (Core Individuation). Just holding the book, having it in your office and looking at the pictures has an impact that facilitates healing. The book has its own energy field! If on the other hand you are like me: (the more detail the better!) then this book is a treasure trove - tool kit for healing possibilities and methods. No matter who you are, if you use some of the processes and meditations, you can have a profound healing.

This book will have a profound impact on the Energy Healing Community and health care overall. Count on it!!

The Grey's Anatomy for Energy Workers

I think this is one of the most important books of the 21st century. Quite simply, paradigm-busting and deeply empowering. Never before could you see the anatomy of the human energy structure described in such precise and intricate detail. Includes elaborate descriptions of the various energy systems of the human body/soul including 60+ color illustrations. This book is like an encyclopedia of the soul, yet also full of experiential exercises and example stories.

Some of my favorite sections:

* The 13 chakras and their underappreciated function
* How to sever entanglements - this one daily exercise changed my life and ability to be present in the world
* The 3 soul types (alpha, beta, and gamma) and how your type influences how you experience everything
* The seven layers of the soul structure and the sensory information stored in each (mind-blowing stuff)

I've been a student of Core Individuation for more than a decade, and it represents some of most profound teachings that has shaped my path. Desda has tested and refined this body of work over 40 years through interaction with thousands of client sessions and teaching dozens of practitioners in these methodologies. "Your Sacred Anatomy" is a must read book for anyone who wants to better understand their energetic structure, with full color images and specific exercises to learn to feel and connect with your energy bodies. This 408 page book is actually divided into two books: Book I - Your Owner's Guide, and Book II - Your Technical Manual.

Included in this work are:

* 7 Anatomical Systems of the Human Energy Structure
* How To Strengthen the Human Electromagnetic Field
* The 13 Chakras and How They Really Work
* What the Aura Actually Does (It's Not What You Think)
* Sever Entanglements with People, Places, and Things

The first Book covers energy systems, including color imagery, along with exercises on how to locate and define your own systems, and connect to them (as a prelude to working with them). The second Book covers the various layers of energy, going into depth on how they function.

Throughout the book there are exercises that help the reader experience their own energy, along with full color images, and short recounting of personal experiences that clients have had when treated using it.

At the end of the book is a glossary with a definition of terms - Zuckerman's personal definition of terms that may mean other things to other people.
