My Wish is that You Read this Book :)

What drew me to this book was the fact that it had the same title as a poem that I had once read. I thought the writing contained such lovely sentiments and hoped that the book might, too. It turns out that the author had taken the basis of that very poem and expanded on it beautifully.

I WISH YOU ENOUGH is as follows:
I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.
I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish you enough Hellos to get you through the final Goodbye.

Bob Perks took these verses and added to them with short stories, quotes, a bit of poetry and a scripture verse for each one. He did a lovely job of bringing the thoughts to life.

This is a sweet little book with an uplifting message. The page artistry and photographs are gorgeous. This would certainly make a excellent gift, though I personally plan to keep mine and hand it down to my kids. I will need to get more copies to share and I think you may find yourself doing the same.

Great Study Bible

I have a couple of Study Bibles, and although the NKJV is not my favorite translation, I truly enjoy this Bible. Just starting with the New Testament in Matthew, you can read the prophecy that was fulfilled by the first coming of Christ. Did you know how many prophecies there are about Christ, there are hundreds, including the birth place, the family lineage, the virgin birth, the amount of money he was to be betrayed for, etc. These were all written hundreds (seven hundred from Micah) of years before his birth.

This is how we know the coming prophecies are true, because the previous ones have already been proven out with the Birth, death and resurrection of Christ. So what about the second coming? Some of these have already come to pass, Duet 30:5 Israel returns to its land (also Amos 9:14). Most of them will happen at some future date that only god knows about (Matt 24:36)

If you have an interest in Prophecy, then this Bible is a great tool.

A Bible with VERY good study aids

This is a regular KJV of the Bible with lots of maps, editorals, and study aids thrown in. The extras here are a very nice help in understanding the subject of the seperate books. Please ignore the review from "Honestly, I didn't like it, December 12, 2000 Reviewer: A reader from Texas". Maybe the editorials in this book could have gone into more detail but if I want more info I'll get a book on that alone.
I have friends that don't believe there is a God. I plan on giving them a copy of this study Bible with little articles and editorals on the "sign of the times". I think this is a great Bible to give to new believers or disbelievers considering the recent happenings.

I can't say that it has much in the way of advanced topics, however, it does cover the basics and where to go when you want to take the PC-BSD OS to the next level. I especialy like the section on how to install Free BSD software in PC-BSD, that right there is worth the cover price.

Useful, broad information to install and use PC-PSD

Upgrade: after playing with, enhancing and expanding my new PC-BSD 9.0 system and delving repeatedly back into the Guide to PC-BSD, I have to admit it is more definitive than I initially claimed, it is in fact more helpful than many of my user level Linux references. I recommend this reference.

PC-BSD is a nice alternative to Linux, offering many of the same features and applications, and adheres to the same philosophy of Open Software (free). But it seems not as well established as Linux nor offers the the variety of distributions as the many mainstream Linux distros. Nonetheless, it's a rock-solid system, and the basis for some very useful offshoots in network and security applications.

Consequently, user level documentation is not as widespread or diverse. This text will get you up and running, and serve as a desktop reference, for PC-BSD, a graphical (GUI) desktop system. This book describes the KDE desktop manager (PC-BSD supports Gnome and others, not described), and describes BSD equivalents for package management, mail clients, browsers, and all those applications familiar in MS Windows and Linux. This text is not intended to document the more technical aspects such as BSD programming, server installations, kernel development and the like (even though the distribution install disk offers many of these capabilities).

This text is nicely written and presented in the usual manner (overview, install, customizing,..., tuning), providing a general and useful description of what you need to make PC-BSD run and make you happy. I did not find it to be definitive. I did find it to be on the pricey side for what it offers, as I find most of the other BSD references to be; I have no clue why, maybe I shop the wrong sites.

My PC-BSD distribution DVD (from OSDisc dot Com, recommended) came with the PC-BSD User Handbook, in PDF format. I found this to be as useful as the Definitive Guide, so you might want to give the Handbook a try first (247 pages). However, if you are an entry level user, or have no Linux background, the Definitive Guide is the way to go. There doesn't seem to be much else out there to choose from, so enjoy what there is.

(fwiw: my PC-BSD system runs Firefox, Thunderbird, OpenOffice, built-in firewall and virus software, and a host of Linux applications; I am presently happy with this system, its performance, and security features. Either this Definitive Guide or the Handbook will take you there.)

I'm still reading this book, but what I've read so far I like. Dru has made it easy to follow and understand. If anyone is interested in BSD Operating systems, they might try the PC-BSD, Free-BSD, or similar Operating System. Try this book on for size. I know the more I read the more I like. There's so much the PC-BSD will do, that in itself is enough to go for it. You might go online and download PC-BSD Operating System, commit it to disk, and have it for when you get the book: The Difinitive Guide to PC-BSD. Thanks.

Let's Clear Things Up.

How many of us sat in a high school English class reading "Romeo and Juliet" outloud? I did. I am fairly certain the teacher believed that reading Shakespeare aloud would encourage the love of Shakespeare in his/her students. Just the opposite was true, it incurred instant boredom. There is a reason for this lack of appreciation, many Americans do not understand Elizabethan English.
This book, Romeo and Juliet (Shakespeare Made Clear) clears up any fear you might have concerning interpretation of the language and does so much more. The author describes the culture, setting, even the slang that was used in the time period. Who knew that biting someones thumb was insulting? The book discusses themes,characters, and the sonnet structure. It even includes an entertaining history of theater as it was when this play was presented. .
Primarily, of course, is the translation of the text from the play in terms that everyone can understand. Allow yourself to actually read this play with the excellent translation. You will suddenly discover the genius of Shakespeare's language and understand what all the fuss is about.

Romeo and Juliet (Shakespeare Made Clear)

Reading Shakespeare this way (modern translation paired with the original text) is extremely helpful if you are going to be quizzed or have to write an essay for a course. There is a concise introduction and synopsis at the start, a scene-by-scene summary and character description at the end, and helpful clues throughout to contextualize the material - like word definitions, points of reference, performance notes and historical commentary. After a while, however, I found myself unintentionally just reading the modern translation, since it was easier to decipher, and ignoring the original text. This seems unfortunate. My comprehension increased, but my appreciation of Shakespeare’s poetic genius did not.

Having read Romeo and Juliet before in high school, I remembered the difficulty that my classmates and I had in understanding the book. We dreaded class because we simply did not understand. Even using "dummy books" our understanding of Romeo and Juliet was not what I should be in order to fully appreciate the classic play that has survived centuries.
This book Romeo and Juliet (Shakespeare Made Clear) has made not only the grand task of understanding the play easier, but it also explains literary themes and elements, the origin, play history, variations and even a synopsis!
Each Act provides a summary and a line by line interpretation; it also includes an explanation of the literary elements, what they are and why they were used.
This book will surly provide you with a better explanation and understanding of the classic play Romeo and Juliet. If you are studying the play in school, it will make the task of studying Romeo and Juliet less dreaded and more enjoyable. This book will help you not only with this specific play but also with other literary works too.
