An evaluation of the evidence for and (mostly) against man’s evolution on Planet Earth, by a leading environmentalist and ecologist.
Including:
An evaluation of the thirteen leading hypotheses
Seventeen factors which suggest we are not from Earth
How did we get here?
When did we get here?
What is our home planet like?
The most likely stars that our home planet orbits
If the aliens are out there why can’t we detect them?
Are we the aliens?
In this fascinating book Dr. Ellis Silver provides answers to all of these questions, based on current evidence and thinking in the scientific community and elsewhere. Links to websites that discuss the evidence and debate the issues in more detail are also provided.
This short book is intended to raise awareness and stimulate debate and to request/gather further evidence from readers.

Do NOT waste your time or money on this book
By H. H. Craft
I'll be honest and say that I lean away from so-called ancient astronaut theory (AAT)--the hypothesis that humans originated elsewhere than Earth. However, there are enough anomalies and peculiarities regarding human origins that I'm not sure, and I keep an open mind. I think a sound or at least plausible argument for the POSSIBILITY of AAT can be made. This book had got a lot of notices (some in relatively mainstream venues), so I thought, given its low price, that it was worth a look. Well, as I said, it may be possible to make an argument in favor of AAT, but THIS book sure didn't make it.
There's no nice way to say it--Silver's book is the stupidest piece of goofball tripe I've read in years, bar none. Not only does he show no evidence of understanding what he talks about; not only does he begin the book by assuming what he wants to "prove"; not only is his bibliography mostly irrelevant to his thesis (e.g. he cites "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins. How is that relevant?); but he can't even go a chapter without either contradicting HIMSELF or making an absolutely ridiculous statement that, as the old saying goes, isn't even WRONG.
Some examples: After (rightly) observing the high amount of genes we share with chimps and even lower animals, he immediately says that maybe we evolved elsewhere and were broight here as is and those similarities are a COMPLETE AND TOTAL COINCIDENCE, because, well, maybe DNA is the same everywhere! (I'm not kidding)
In one chapter he changes his mind from PARAGRAPH TO PARAGRAPH as to whether we are the actual descendents of the aliens who brought us here; or hybrids of these aliens with terrestrial hominids; or inhabitants of a THIRD planet who were brought here by OTHER aliens. In another, he argues that our planet of origin must have been very resource-poor and that its inhabitants must have struggled to feed themselves, and get this--he says they must have had a cloudy atmosphere that would have made it impossible to see the stars; BUT these aliens may have developed the technology to come here--a planet of a star they could never have detected!
Finally, one of the stupidest things: He says that the increasing height of humans indicates that we must have come from a higher-gravity planet and results from our being in Earth's lower gravity. Never mind that all of these increases in height have occurred in the last TWO HUNDRED YEARS OR LESS out of all the HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF YEARS the species has existed!!!
Supposedly this guy is an "environmentalist", but he doesn't seem to me to have the least understanding of LOGIC, let alone science. What's really odd in that regard is that after a bit of Googling, I can't even find anything about an "Ellis Sliver" EXCEPT in the articles about this book, or articles referring to this book. I see him referred to as "Dr." Ellis Silver; but given that, according to the bio in the book he not only is a professional ecologist, but has founded an environmental company in England, it's really odd that I can't seem to find ANYTHING about him (even a cursory search ought to turn up SOMETHING) not related to this book. Very strange.
In any case, there is not a shred of logic, science, empricism, or plausibility in this book. It is SO bad that I'm almost inclined to think it's a hoax, that somehow he got Yahoo! and a few other sites to mention his book, with the result that normally skeptical people (like me) would buy the book. That may not be the case, and since I don't know anything about the author, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt as to character and sincerity. Nevertheless, I would definitely say to everyone who comes here thinking about buying the book: DON'T waste your time or your money.

not good
By Manuel
I thought this was going to be a serious scientific book. I believe it's possible that we came from another planet. I don't know what this person got a phD in but most high schoolers could argue away his claims. He doesn't provide any evidence for any of this theories. The author really should take a couple anthropology classes at a community college.
'The things we like to eat: chocolate, sugar, red meat, saturated fat, alcoholic drinks, are all the things that are bad for us....either evolution has screwed up big time or we can't possibly be from this planet.'
How do you argue with that?

Species III fan-fiction with what a fifth-grader thinks a "scientist" sounds like as narrator.
By D. Bost
A short list of ways in which the author fails at science at the most basic level possible, just within the free-sample portion of the book:
Title/rights page: Author does not list his current institution of employment, or the institution funding him at the time his research was done (because he doesn't actually have a PhD and didn't actually do any research, most likely)
Introduction:
Formatted as a high school essay introduction, not a scientific work intro
Merely asserts conclusion repeatedly, does not reference actual later 'evidence'/conclusions -- so a high-school FAILED essay introduction format, then.
Sec. 1 (How did we get here):
References "my friend, Dave Haslett"-- again, no actual position or reference given (should be footnoted at minimum)
Fails biology forever: asserts that we are an introduced species (we share 50% of our DNA with bananas and 99.9% with other great apes, everything else is somewhere between-- hypotheses that do not account for this automatically fail)
Sec. 2 (If there are aliens, why can't we detect them?)
Fails signal engineering forever: asserts that earth is "going dark" because "all broadcasts will be low-power wireless or cable" (easy counterexample 1: most of our signals are routed through satellites at one point or another. easy counter-example 2: we're in regular communication with devices on other planets and beyond the orbit of Pluto, and will continue to be for the forseeable future).
Fails basic physics forever: "infra red, (visible) light, microwaves" are the same kind of radiation as radio, and spread into space in the same fashion.
Fails logic forever: claims that we know aliens put us here, because we know they must be out there, because we know they put us here... this entire circular bit of logic fits in a single paragraph.
Sec. 3 (Seventeen factors which suggest we aren't from Earth)
Sub 1: The sun hurts our eyes
Fails biology forever: implies non-human animals have no problems when looking directly at the sun (blatantly false)
Double down on the failure: claims animals that freeze in bright lights (headlights) aren't blinded by those lights. In actuality, that is why they freeze in the first place.
Fails human-watching forever: claims humans deal with bright lights much worse than other mammals. A lot of roadkill would like to have a word with him about that.
Fails biology forever: posits that evolution is an organized force with a "goal" of making things "better".
Sub 2 (the sun kills us)
Fails husbandry forever: claims non-human mammals do not suffer sun-burn, skin cancer, or cataracts from sun exposure. Should have talked to a veterinarian about that one, bud. Or literally anyone that's ever owned a dog-- these are all major health concerns for (mammal) pets as they age.
Overall:
Fails at basic rigor: in science, asking "so why/why not?" and then asserting "because (my conclusion)" is not how it works, there are those intermediate steps in there where you put in evidence and so on.
Conclusion: Ellis Silver does not actually have a PhD, is a conspiracy theorist who has seen Species III one too many times, and most importantly is wasting your time. Don't let him waste your time, or money. Don't buy this book.
